My baby is 1!

My dear, sweet baby Oliver turned 1 on January 20th and I can hardly believe it.  Even harder to believe is the changes that  we've seen in him since he's turned one.  It seems as though he went from baby to toddler overnight.  He took his first steps at 11 months and was a full fledged walker by his birthday and has not looked back.  He is officially a danger to himself and any other valuables in the house.  He loves putting things in the toilet, we've found a book, a glass, a fork and tooth brush in the toilet so far.  He's gotten into tooth paste, nail polish amongst other things.  He climbs chairs, tables, coffee tables and bookshelves.   He is starting to be so vocal, his favourite words being: banana (he has banana addiction), cookie, mommy, daddy, ball, puppy and me.  He loves to play with toys and on his birthday had what we like to call a "toy overload."  All of his new toys required him to push a button or put a ball in  a hole of some type..  At one time he was standing between two toys trying to keep them both going but eventually reached "toy overload" and burst into tears.  It was too much pressure.  We love our busy little 1 year old.

Guess who turned 6?

This guy!

Nate turned 6 on December 28. We celebrated by having a birthday party at Jared's school in the gym. Not surprisingly, but it turned out to be a perfect venue for this little group. They could run, chase, play and sweat to their little hearts content.

6 things that we love about our Nate:

1. That he can beat Jared at Wii Boxing every single match.

2. That he does not leave a single crumb in his lunch box, we are talking nothing, he eats everything!

3. That he can follow complex Lego directions and can now play chess.

4. That he comes home daily with a half of dozen pictures that little girls in his class have drawn for him and stuffed in his agenda without his knowledge.

5. That he always has to be the fastest in his gym class, if he's not then he fakes an injury or claims the other kid was cheating.

6. That he had a picture he drew of the family chosen to be in the district Art Fair at the mall. I kept trying to get him to come and look at it with me, but when he found out it was at the mall, it was a no go. He kept claiming he was a famous artist but his strong dislike for any type of mall outweighed his desire to see his work in public. I saw it however, it was cute as can be.

And a couple of more:

7. That he is a true athlete and a natural with any type of ball. He even got pretty good at skiing this year.

8. That he is the sweetest boy and he always makes sure that we get our four hugs a day.

9. That he keeps his Kindergarten class laughing with is antics ( in a good way his teacher assures us:).

Nate designed his own cake for his party; and he was very specific with what he wanted. Thank goodness for dollarama for having edible Lego pieces. He wanted his name spelt in Lego, with two Lego guys carrying the final piece. The Lego candies were all in pastels so we used food colouring to paint them brighter colours. He loved it and that's all that mattered.
